Color Change: A Revolutionary Approach to Fashion

Qu nan's Innovative Design Visualizes the Unseen Through Temperature-Responsive Clothing

Qu nan, an innovative designer, has redefined the boundaries of fashion with his groundbreaking project, Color Change. This unique design uses temperature-varying materials to visualize the unseen, creating a dynamic interaction between the wearer and the garment. This article delves into the inspiration, unique properties, and realization technology behind this award-winning design.

The inspiration for Color Change stemmed from the desire to visualize the unseen. Qu nan sought to highlight the chemical interactions between people - hugs, breaths, kisses, and the changes in body temperature with the acceleration of the heartbeat. These invisible changes in temperature and energy inspired the designer to use temperature-changing materials to bring these hidden aspects to light.

What sets Color Change apart from other designs is its unique properties. The clothing is designed to highlight structural lines, using stickers to close these lines. The result is a garment that changes with the temperature of the human body, visualizing the unseen changes in energy and temperature. This innovative approach to fashion design creates a dynamic and interactive experience for the wearer.

The realization of Color Change involved the use of two distinct materials. One is a fabric that changes color with temperature, responding to human body temperature and other heat sources. The other is adhesive tape, a contrasting material that remains unchanged with temperature variations. The sharp contrast between these two materials adds a unique visual element to the garment.

The technical specifications of the design are 1500mmx200mmx3000mm. The clothing can be made of fabrics that change color with changes in temperature. The temperature emitted by the body during use or contact with other people, or even sunlight, can change the color of the garment, adding an interactive element to the design.

The project was initiated in Guangzhou in January 2020 and completed in Shenzhen in March 2020. The main challenge faced during the design process was how to express temperature and temperature changes in the form of clothing design. However, Qu nan successfully overcame this challenge, creating a design that is not only visually striking but also interactive and dynamic.

Color Change was awarded Silver in A' Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that showcase outstanding expertise and innovation. Qu nan's design certainly fits this description, with its unique approach to visualizing the unseen and creating a dynamic interaction between the wearer and the garment.
