Wavee: A Multifunctional Toothbrush Revolutionizing Personal Care

Designers Ahmet Burak Veyisoglu and Ahmet Durmus Combine Oral Hygiene and Music in an Innovative Design

The designers drew inspiration from the desire to infuse music into users' daily routines, starting from the bathroom. The product is particularly suitable for homes with limited space. Wavee offers two functions in one body, making it a unique addition to the market. The first is an electric toothbrush that provides effective teeth cleaning through a powerful three-speed motor and sonic wave brush head. The second is a smart speaker charging base that delivers rich, amplified sound, enhancing the user's experience.

The body of the toothbrush is made of ABS plastic, with a stainless steel speaker grille for improved durability. The toothbrush can be charged via wireless charging technology, and the motor inside the toothbrush can provide up to 48,000 rpm power. The speaker has an output power of 25 W, and the device has IPX 5 water-resistance to avoid water splashes and shower steam.

Wavee is controlled by a single button that cycles through different vibration patterns. The sound system has various buttons on top to control the Bluetooth connectivity, adjust the volume level, and switch between different modes. Users can connect the speaker to their mobile phone to control music streaming.

The project started in April 2019 and was completed in February 2020 in Hong Kong. The designers conducted research and found that the average time both men and women spend in the bathroom every day is at least 30 minutes. They discovered that the first 10 minutes of their morning routine can dictate the rest of the day. Studies showed that listening to music has numerous benefits, including improving the overall mood, lowering stress levels, increasing productivity, and strengthening brain skills like learning and memory.

The main challenge was combining two individual devices into one while maintaining the individual aspects and characteristics of each product. The designers successfully created a complete design style that looks complete when the toothbrush is parked on the speaker. Wavee was awarded Silver in A' Beauty, Personal Care and Cosmetic Products Design Award in 2021, a testament to its innovative design and functionality.
