Manila Spa: A Fusion of Tradition and Modernity

The inspiration behind the Manila Spa project is deeply rooted in Chinese style courtyards. The designers have successfully created a space that combines traditional Chinese courtyard aesthetics with the local features and culture of Manila, along with other Chinese elements. The result is a spa that not only provides relaxation but also immerses visitors in a rich cultural experience.

What sets the Manila Spa apart from other leisure spaces is its unique integration of traditional and modern design techniques. The designers have used classic architecture of Manila and Chinese elements to create a sense of relaxation essential for a spa area. The realization of the Manila Spa project involved the use of new composite wood plastics, replacing solid wood to create a comfortable experience space. This decision was driven by the high air humidity in the spa, demonstrating the designers' commitment to energy conservation and environmental protection. The spa suites, designed to be private and elegant, feature dark wood floors and sharp-lined furniture, creating a warm and comfortable living space.

The design process involved extensive research into local culture and the relationship between traditional and modern design methods. This research was instrumental in creating a unique ambience in the spa. For instance, the first floor spaces are connected by a carefully designed walkway, with a wooden ceiling, exquisite railings, and plant landscape that make visitors feel as if they are walking in a courtyard.

Despite the challenges posed by the high ceiling of the first floor, the designers incorporated traditional ancient Chinese roof modeling elements into the ceiling design, adding a sense of components and space to the area. The result is a spa that not only offers relaxation but also provides visitors with a unique cultural experience.

The Manila Spa project, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, is a testament to the designers' innovative approach and their commitment to creating spaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
