The Old School Charm design by Don Lin draws inspiration from the past while incorporating elements of the present. The standout feature of this design is the authentic push-cart cum study table, which adds a touch of nostalgia to the space. The traditional cable-tray cum artwork shades and the integration of a table lamp into the wall further enhance the vintage atmosphere.
What sets Old School Charm apart from other designs is its use of basic materials such as cement and ventilation blocks. These materials add an extra dimension to the space, creating a unique and timeless ambiance. The design aims to evoke a sense of ageless elegance, allowing homeowners to create a warm and comfortable environment reminiscent of a home-cooked meal.
The interaction with the design is characterized by the infusion of various elements in a space without overwhelming it. The result is a harmonious blend of past and present, creating a home that is both nostalgic and contemporary.
The Old School Charm project was completed in August 2016 and is located in Singapore. One of the challenges faced during the design process was working with the existing structure of the typical flat layout while oversized the residence's aesthetic appeal. Another challenge was sourcing a vintage old bicycle and distributing its spare parts evenly to balance the push-cart.
This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2017. This award is a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of the design, which incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology. Old School Charm contributes to improving the quality of life and making the world a better place through its innovative approach.
