The Rossmore: A Pioneering Blend of Art Deco and Sustainable Design

Artur Nesterenko's Award-Winning Residential Multi-Unit Design

Artur Nesterenko's The Rossmore, a high-end apartment building in Los Angeles, is a unique fusion of contemporary design, Art Deco charm, and sustainable construction. This innovative project, which won the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021, is set to be one of the first massive timber mid-high-rise buildings in the city.

The Rossmore's design was inspired by today's material science, sculptural design, and art scene, with a particular focus on the guiding principles of Art Deco. The building's envelope was developed to reflect these influences, with high-performance concrete cladding panels and sculptural elements adorning the facades. The project aims to answer the need for sustainable design and construction, making it a pioneer in the field of Prefab massive timber design and construction.

What sets The Rossmore apart is its plan to be the first massive timber mid-high-rise apartment building in Los Angeles. This innovative approach responds to the urgent need for sustainable design and construction practices in an increasingly environmentally-conscious world. The building will serve as a proving ground for this type of design and construction, potentially influencing future projects in the city and beyond.

The Rossmore is realized using Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) technology, which is especially cost-effective for multistory and long-span diaphragm applications. The building will cover a total area of 100,000 square feet, with 12 stories, 68 units, and two subterranean levels for parking.

The design process for The Rossmore involved a careful balance of form and function, with a focus on cost-effective construction methods that still allow for elegant and luxurious design details. The project faced the challenge of maintaining a connection to the historical Art Deco style prevalent in the neighborhood while creating a visually stunning and modern building. The result is a landmark building that pays homage to Hollywood's bygone charm and sets a precedent for a new age of cinematic luxury.

The Rossmore is a testament to the potential of blending historical design principles with modern, sustainable construction methods. Its success, as recognized by the prestigious Golden A' Design Award, is a testament to the creativity and innovation of its design team, led by Artur Nesterenko. As a pioneering project in sustainable design, The Rossmore sets a high standard for future developments in the field.
