Shimao Bright Xihu: A Modern Oriental Landscape Masterpiece

Randi Design's Award-Winning Blend of Ancient Aesthetics and Modern Design

Shimao Bright Xihu, a landscape design project by Randi Design, has been awarded the prestigious Silver A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award in 2021. This project, located in Pingtan county, Fujian, China, is a testament to the harmonious blend of traditional Song Dynasty aesthetics and modern design principles.

Randi Design drew inspiration from the architectural aesthetics of the Song Dynasty, integrating elements of the past and present to shape a park that is both modern and concise. The project subtly incorporates traditional gate court etiquette and courtyard culture into its landscape structure, enriching the site experience and enhancing connectivity. The landscape space, palette, and elements unite with the architecture to form a comfortable space that truly represents the spirit of the place.

The design team faced the challenge of a limited construction timeframe. However, through effective cooperation between the designer, client, and construction team, and with professionals guiding and controlling the construction process on-site, the project was successfully completed. The sculpture production process was complex, involving careful selection and deliberation of size and materials. Despite the poor surrounding conditions of the project site, the landscape was beautified accordingly upon completion.

The landscape structure follows the ritual sequence of the Eastern artistic conception, adopting a central axis of enlightenment and transformation. The design theme is dreamland with the haze on hillside, creating a scene of four images on one axis. The materials used include imitation stone pc board, imitation stone tiles, metal decorative strips, and stone, with the facade's main materials unified with the building, featuring marble tiles and metal decoration.

With a total area of 56849 square meters, the project site is formed by 126 islands, rich in marine resources in a subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest zone. The project site is the core area of the local central business district, promising a bright future with its unique natural and social resources. The project, in modern oriental style, features an integrated design in interior, architecture, and landscape, reflecting the Chinese artistic conception.

The design team believes that the landscape is not a single individual, but it is based on the project's architectural and regional advantages. Through the construction method of integration and strengthening, the most suitable landscape expression for the site was found. The design focuses on creating a new Chinese landscape temperament and unique landscape style in line with the aesthetic orientation of the times, introducing tranquil and graceful gardens into the site, conveying the artistic essence of Chinese classical gardens.

The project was designed in January 2020 and finished in June 2020. It is a landscape where dreams and reality merge into one, considering the needs of people of different natures and the actual meaning of the space to create a life state in which people can have abundant feelings. The traditional gate court etiquette and courtyard culture are subtly integrated into it, together with rich and coherent spatial circulation, to enrich the site experience and enhance connectivity. This project is a testament to the harmonious blend of traditional Song Dynasty aesthetics and modern design principles.
