Haci Bekir Halva: Modernizing Tradition with Trendy Packaging Design

Updating the Presentation of a Timeless Dessert

Haci Bekir, one of the oldest brands in the world, has embraced the 21st-century trends by revamping the packaging design of their halva products. With the aim of appealing to a younger audience, the new design features trendy patterns and vibrant colors, while still maintaining the brand's legacy.

Halva, a traditional dessert, has been experiencing a resurgence in popularity, making it the perfect time for Haci Bekir to update their packaging and prints. The brand wanted to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity, targeting a younger customer base. The new packaging design incorporates hip stripe patterns and bold colors to give the traditional taste of halva a fresh and youthful look.

The inspiration for the design came from the main ingredients and textures of each halva variety. The plain halva, known for its smooth texture, is represented by straight lines, while the halva with cocoa, which has a wavy texture, features a wavy pattern. The halva with pistachio, known for its crunchy texture, is represented by zigzag lines. These patterns not only reflect the unique characteristics of each flavor but also add visual interest to the packaging.

The production process involved covering the plastic containers with carton sleeves to enhance the presentation of the halva boxes. The sleeves, measuring 141 x 302 mm, provide a cohesive and visually appealing packaging solution for all three halva varieties.

The updated packaging design allows Haci Bekir to connect with a younger generation that values trendy patterns and vibrant colors. By modernizing the traditional dessert's presentation, the brand can expand its reach and appeal to a wider audience.

Despite the challenges of maintaining the legacy of Haci Bekir while appealing to a younger audience, the design successfully strikes a balance between hip aesthetics and brand recognition. The simplicity of the patterns ensures that the brand name and logo stand out, while the organic patterns inspired by the ingredients create an eye-catching visual appeal.

The project, which took place in Istanbul from December 2019 to February 2020, involved extensive research to develop unique representations for each flavor. The sketches and ideas explored during the research process ultimately led to the creation of the final design.

The innovative packaging design for Haci Bekir Halva has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award acknowledges the practicality, innovation, and professional quality of the design, which integrates industry best practices and technical excellence.

With its modern and visually appealing packaging, Haci Bekir Halva is ready to captivate the taste buds and hearts of the new generation, while still honoring the brand's rich heritage.
