Founded in 1664, Guyue Long Shan is China's largest yellow wine group and a popular traditional yellow wine brand. With a loyal customer base of middle-aged and elderly people, the brand felt the need to develop new products to cater to younger consumers. The result is Snow Time, a product that beautifully blends tradition and modernity.
The inspiration for Snow Time came from the essential elements of making yellow rice wine: water, glutinous rice, and time. The designers used abstract snowflakes to express these elements and drew local mountains and water to form a complete picture. The lees of Fragrant snow wine, as white as snow, also played a significant role in the design inspiration.
The unique properties of this design lie in its ability to convey the traditional process of making yellow rice wine in a modern and appealing way. The design was realized using a combination of glass bottle model development, paper embossed hot stamping, solid wood, and cork. The size of the bottle is 210mm*80mm*80mm, and the paper seal at the bottle mouth simulates the dynamic opening of yellow rice wine, increasing the sense of ceremony.
The design process was not without challenges. The designers had to strike a balance between maintaining the traditional brand image and appealing to emerging markets. The result is a packaging design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also deeply rooted in Chinese yellow wine culture and the local city culture of Shaoxing.
The Snow Time wine packaging design is a testament to the power of innovation in preserving and promoting tradition. It is a perfect example of how design can be used to bridge the gap between the old and the new, creating a product that appeals to both traditional and modern consumers. With this design, Evan Chen and Ziming Guo have truly brought the concept of enjoying slow times to life.
