Sensory Guessing Box Mirabu: A Touch and Guess Game for Children

Unleashing Imagination and Learning through Play

Mirabu, a beautifully designed Sensory Guessing Box, combines mystery, sensory experience, and educational play to create a fun and engaging game for children. Designed by Evelina Tumas and Ingrida Bieliauske, this innovative toy offers a unique way for children to explore their sense of touch and enhance their language development.

Children are naturally drawn to secrets and hidden things. Mirabu taps into this curiosity by inviting children to touch and feel objects inside the box without looking. With covered holes, children can describe what they feel, stimulating their sensory perception and encouraging descriptive language skills.

What sets Mirabu apart is its multifunctionality. One of the panels is transparent, allowing other children to watch the guessing game or create a scene for a theater play. This not only adds an element of excitement but also promotes social interaction and imaginative play.

The construction of Mirabu was carefully considered to ensure durability and longevity. While initially cardboard was considered, it was found to be too weak during testing with children. As a result, wood and plywood were chosen to create a sturdy and long-lasting design.

Measuring at 225x345x209 mm, Mirabu is the perfect size for children to explore and interact with. Its compact design allows for easy storage and transport, making it suitable for everyday play.

Operating Mirabu is simple yet engaging. A teacher or parent places various objects inside the box and invites a child to put their hands through the covered holes to guess what is hiding. If the child struggles to guess, others watching from the transparent panel can provide hints. Additionally, a colorful felt ball on the top lid can be pushed through to get a peek inside, adding an element of surprise.

Developing new products for children comes with its own set of challenges. For Mirabu, visualizing various play scenarios was crucial in determining the choice of materials and the overall aesthetics of the design. The decision to make Mirabu flat-packed not only saves space and logistics costs but also allows children to assemble the box themselves, fostering a sense of engagement and accomplishment.

Mirabu is part of the edu2 collection of creative playthings developed by Innospark, a creative design house. It is designed for children aged 3-10+ years and aims to provide versatile sensory experiences, enrich language development, and reimagine learning through play.

Photographer Karolis Milasevičius beautifully captures the essence of Mirabu, showcasing its design and functionality. Mirabu has also been recognized for its excellence, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in the Baby, Kids, and Children's Products Design category in 2021. This prestigious award celebrates well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.

With Mirabu, children can embark on a sensory journey, unlocking their imagination and fostering a love for learning through play. This touch and guess game is not only educational but also a delightful addition to any child's playtime.
