Ztraw: The Stylish and Hygienic Reusable Straw

A Foldable and Pocket-Size Solution by Thinkthing Studio Ltd.

In the wake of increasing restrictions on single-use straws, Thinkthing Studio Ltd. presents Ztraw, a revolutionary reusable straw that combines portability, hygiene, and style. With its unique design and innovative features, Ztraw aims to change the perception that maintaining a green lifestyle is difficult.

Ztraw addresses the common concerns associated with reusable straws, such as portability and hygiene. Unlike traditional reusable straws, Ztraw is foldable and pocket-sized, making it easy to carry anywhere. Its stylish pouch, available in ten colors, adds a touch of fashion to the eco-friendly product.

What sets Ztraw apart is its focus on hygiene. The straw is made from antibacterial compound mixed PP and TPE material, ensuring that it remains safe and free from bacteria. The foldable design allows users to open it up and clean every corner, eliminating the risk of mold and sickness.

Thinkthing Studio Ltd. has employed injection molding technology to manufacture Ztraw. The polypropylene component is solidified before injecting thermoplastic elastomers for the soft joint of the straw. Precise placement is crucial to maintain the vacuum suction experience. The pouch, made from laminated PU and PEVA, is waterproof and visually appealing. A special glue and vacuum-formed plastic case secure the magnet, overcoming the challenges posed by the PEVA material.

Ztraw's technical specifications include dimensions of 190mm x 37mm x 3.8mm and a weight of 15g. It is made from antibacterial polypropylene and antibacterial thermoplastic elastomer. The product package measures 80mm x 200mm x 10mm.

Using Ztraw is simple and convenient. The flat pack packaging minimizes carbon footprint and reduces the use of unnecessary materials. To use the straw, fold it along the vertical line and then fold it into a triangular shape, securing the first and last sections to create a drinkable straw. After use, unfold the straw, wipe it with a towel or tissue, and fold it in half before placing it back in the pouch.

The idea for Ztraw originated in January 2018, and it was officially launched on Kickstarter in March 2020. Production began in June, with assembly taking place in Hong Kong by St. James' Settlement sheltered workshop. The first shipments were sent out to buyers in July 2020.

Extensive research was conducted to address the challenges faced by reusable straws. Existing designs were analyzed, and the team discovered that many straws were difficult to clean and prone to trapping mold. Ztraw fills the market gap for a compact and sturdy straw that can be easily opened for cleaning. It aims to make sustainable living more accessible and appealing to individuals who value aesthetics.

Ztraw has overcome numerous creative, technical, and research challenges. The foldable design required precise production methods, leading to the development of expensive injection molding molds. Achieving an airtight structure similar to a traditional straw involved testing numerous prototypes with minimal differences. High precision during production was essential to minimize any percentage error.

Ztraw has been awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects, and Green Design category in 2021. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Ztraw's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contribute to a better world.

With Ztraw, Thinkthing Studio Ltd. has created a game-changing reusable straw that combines style, portability, and hygiene. By offering a simple and user-friendly solution, Ztraw encourages individuals to embrace a green lifestyle without compromising on convenience or aesthetics.
