Miksa's design philosophy is rooted in the belief that fashion should not be impersonal and alienated. Instead, she advocates for a slower, contemplative approach that values the process of creation as much as the final product. This philosophy is reflected in her "Past at Last" collection, where each garment is a testament to time-consuming craftsmanship and personal commitment.
The unique properties of Miksa's designs lie in their rich textures, playful asymmetry, and subtle coloration. The garments are symmetrical, simple, and closed forms, devoid of any demanding interventions to their structure. The focus is on the visual aspect, tactility, materiality, living motion, and the architectonics of textiles. The color palette is largely achromatic, with the exception of pulsating reds that add a vibrant touch to the otherwise pale spectrum.
The "Past at Last" collection is realized through a variety of techniques, including pleating, stitching, hand tinting, treatment with acids, wax, burning, patching, sandpapering, drilling, basket-making, and finishes. These techniques, many of which are traditional and time-consuming, contribute to the unique aesthetic and tactile quality of the garments.
Despite the challenges associated with reviving traditional craftsmanship in a fast-paced modern world, Miksa remains committed to her vision. She believes that the way we dress and present ourselves to the world is a reflection of our values and our shared existence. By interpreting traditional Croatian folk costumes in a contemporary key, she communicates a message of respect for history, continuity, and sustainable living.
The "Past at Last" collection was showcased at the Ulupuh Gallery in Zagreb from March 10 to 26, 2016. It has since received international recognition, winning the Silver A' Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is a testament to Miksa's remarkable creativity, technical expertise, and commitment to sustainable fashion.
