Chiu Chien Wei's "Light and Shadow": A Harmonious Blend of Art and Humanity

Exploring the Intersection of Technology and Humanity in Residential Interior Design

The "Light and Shadow" project, completed in September 2020 in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, is a residential house that stands out for its undertone luxurious vibe and modern style. The interior design area, approximately 139 square meters, comprises an entrance, living room, dining room, changing room, and two bathrooms. The open layout in the square room allows for the diffusion of light and shadow under the metallic texture, creating an abstract aesthetic that is both visually striking and emotionally engaging.

Chiu Chien Wei, the designer behind this innovative project, drew inspiration from the collision of materials and the use of light beams as a medium. The design's unique properties lie in its clever connection of all elements, striking a balance of tension between technology and humanity. The design's realization technology includes steel brushed veneer, iron parts, titanium plate, natural stone skin, marble, imported tiles, imported fabric wall, and glass.

The design's interaction is another aspect that sets it apart. Upon entering the room, the path of exploration is not narrowed in any way under the layout. The natural lighting adds brilliance to the dark-colored ground. The main TV wall is divided and assembled with stone blocks, and the lower part is clasped with a mirror to create a sense of extension of the view. The rough texture of the stone injects a rustic and mellow atmosphere into the space.

In the bar area, the titanium-plated steel plate is the canopy, connected to the ink splatter pattern center island under the lights. The chandelier lighting looks like the meteor showers in the night sky. The warm yellow light shines on the mirror, creating a gentle veil of haze. The dining area and lounge area are near the wall behind the sofa, maintaining the continuity of the space. The inlaid lighting brings sophistication and beauty to your home.

The design faced challenges in balancing the cold tone of the space. Warm wood flooring is used throughout the room and extends upward to the wooden blinds by the windows. Furniture and colorful pillows add flexibility and color to the space. The design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
