The inspiration for this design came from the desire to create an event visual identity that showcases the characteristics of the school. Through research on the structure of landmark sculptures within the school, Chen realized that these sculptures themselves could serve as a logo. The resulting logo is a clean and distinct design, featuring two figures that denote the number 20. It effectively communicates information while also serving as a decorative character image.
What sets this design apart is its ability to create a friendly atmosphere through illustration and color. Chen designed a whole set of visual proposals, including an invitation letter, anniversary poster, tote bag, pass card, comic book, logotype, typography, site decoration, festival flags, scenic design, stage design, tape patterns, and gift box packaging.
The technical specifications of the design vary depending on the item. For example, the invitation letter measures 130mm in width and 190mm in height, while the anniversary poster is 594mm wide and 420mm high. Each element of the visual identity is carefully crafted to contribute to the overall celebratory atmosphere.
The design project began in January 2018 in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, China, and was completed in April 2018. The final exhibition took place at Jiaxing Nanhu International Experimental School, where students, parents, and teachers were immersed in the festive mood created by the unified visual graphics design.
Chen's research on the structure of landmark sculptures in the school presented a unique challenge. However, this challenge was overcome by realizing that the sculptures themselves could serve as a logo. By transforming this realization into a clean and distinct design, Chen successfully incorporated both information communication and decorative elements into the visual identity.
This design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2021. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. Chen's design contributes to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
