Holistic Healing: A Unique Approach to Retail Pharmacy Design

Creating a Cheerful and Welcoming Ambience for Health and Wellness

Traditional pharmacies are often depicted as cold and bright environments, where consumers spend minimal time browsing for health products and medications. However, Chaos Design Studio's Holistic Healing takes a different approach by adding a leisurely and cheerful ambience to the space, motivating consumers to prioritize their physical and mental health.

The design of Holistic Healing retains the heritage touch of the existing building by reusing three arches to create more openings, demonstrating permeability and interrelationship between retail spaces. The structural elements, furniture, and finishing are carefully designed to create a welcoming and joyful atmosphere.

By incorporating a range of lifestyle elements, including local artisanal products and a reading corner, Holistic Healing aims to offer a unique healing experience to its consumers. The layout of the space is carefully planned to show the interrelationship between different functions, such as retail for lifestyle, body care, rehabilitation, healthcare, and consultation. Over-the-counter retail for body and healthcare products is conveniently located adjacent to the consultation area, while the rehabilitative care retail is positioned at the rear with a ramp for disabled access.

The design process for Holistic Healing began with a thorough understanding of the client's requirements and the location. The team developed concepts and designs based on mood boards and site analysis. Layout drafting and 3D schematic designs were then created to finalize the flow of the interior. The project, located at 294 Macalister Road, George Town, Penang, Malaysia, commenced in May 2019 and was completed in February 2020.

Chaos Design Studio's Holistic Healing has received recognition for its innovative approach to retail pharmacy design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021 for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This prestigious award acknowledges the design's creativity, resourcefulness, and contribution to improving the quality of life. Holistic Healing exemplifies the concept of a "Lifestyle Pharmacy," combining the trends of lifestyle and health to provide a holistic healing experience for its consumers.
