Banchan and Cook: A Korean Flower Garden Restaurant

A Unique Blend of Tradition and Modernity

With the rise of K-pop and the global fascination with Korean culture, Banchan and Cook is a trendy new restaurant that captures the essence of South Korea's vibrant lifestyle and dining habits. Inspired by the charming flower shops tucked away in secret lanes of Korea, this restaurant offers a unique dining experience in a minimalistic dream garden.

Banchan and Cook stands out from other restaurants with its bright natural wood decor that perfectly complements the furniture and plant decorations. The use of sustainable materials creates a vogue and comfortable environment, inviting customers to embark on a culinary journey. The restaurant combines modern Korean cuisine with the trendy Korean atmosphere, providing a refreshing take on light meals.

The interior of Banchan and Cook spans an impressive 2000 sq ft, allowing ample space for diners to immerse themselves in the Korean Flower Garden experience. The mixture of real and artificial plants strikes a balance between sustainability and easy maintenance, while also providing an olfactory sensation that makes guests feel like they are in a real forever garden. The application of advanced glossy finishes on the plants enhances their reflective properties, creating an eye-catching effect.

The layout of Banchan and Cook features organic forms that create a smooth and interesting path for visitors to explore the florist garden. The self-service concept adds to the mobility of the dining experience, allowing guests to freely navigate the space. The jointed indoor and semi-opened dining zones offer a fresh and diverse atmosphere within the concrete building. The sunroof above the semi-opened zone allows diners to gaze at the night sky during dinner or enjoy the sunlight during lunch and afternoon tea.

One of the notable challenges overcome during the design process was the innovative lighting design. The restaurant's lighting system ensures comfortable and sufficient brightness, regardless of the lighting source, whether it be natural sunlight or artificial light. This attention to detail enhances the overall dining experience and ambiance.

Banchan and Cook was designed by Vincent Chi-Wai Chiang, in collaboration with Kevin Ho-Pan Lau. The project commenced in May 2020 and was completed in July 2020 in Hong Kong. Extensive research on indoor plants was conducted to select the most suitable species that would enhance the atmosphere and evoke a strong Korean identity.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills. Banchan and Cook authentically captures the essence of Korean culture, contributing to the improvement of quality of life and making the world a better place.

Experience the endless passion and vitality of Korean cuisine at Banchan and Cook, where traditional and modern food are seamlessly combined in a trendy Korean atmosphere. Step into this minimalistic dream garden and indulge in a dining experience like no other.
