Lazygoose’s Kickproof: A Functional Quilt Designed for Children

Providing Comfort and Protection During Sleep

Children's sleep is crucial for their growth and development. However, many children struggle with kicking their quilts during sleep, leading to discomfort and potential health issues. Introducing Lazygoose’s Kickproof, a unique quilt designed by Yao Lu that addresses this common problem and ensures a comfortable and uninterrupted sleep for children.

The inspiration for Lazygoose’s Kickproof quilt came from the observation that children often kick their quilts due to discomfort caused by excessive warmth or inadequate coverage. This can result in colds, chills, and other health problems. To create a solution, designer Yao Lu developed a quilt that combines innovative design and ergonomic principles to provide children with a comfortable sleep environment.

What sets Lazygoose’s Kickproof quilt apart is its type-X structure, which is specifically designed for school-age children. This structure conforms to children's ergonomics and fits their bodies perfectly, increasing resistance to prevent air leakage on both sides. The quilt also features a widened fishtail space design that prevents the skin from being exposed when children kick the quilt with their feet, providing comprehensive protection during sleep.

The quilt is filled with Germany Soft Fiber, a new insulation material that closely resembles down. The round and small collection of fiber balls mimic the form of down clusters, effectively locking in heat and maintaining a constant temperature. The material is also breathable, ensuring optimal comfort for children. The fabric used is Swiss Sanitized® antibacterial material, which is resistant to sweat stains and can be easily washed in a washing machine, addressing hygiene concerns associated with children's bedding.

Lazygoose’s Kickproof quilt is available in three sizes: 120cm*150cm, 150*200cm, and 200*230cm, catering to different bed sizes and preferences. The quilt is designed to fit the curve of children aged 3-12, with extra insulation material in the shoulder area to provide additional warmth and care.

Through extensive research on children's sleeping habits, Yao Lu and the design team identified the need for a kickproof quilt that aligns with children's ergonomic structure. The type-X structure and widened fishtail space were developed to address the specific challenges children face during sleep, ensuring their comfort and well-being.

The Lazygoose’s Kickproof quilt project began in November 2019 with research conducted in Japan. The design was completed in Hangzhou, China, in April 2020, and the quilt was launched in China in July 2020. The quilt has received recognition for its innovative design and functionality, winning the Iron A' Furniture Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to designs that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and technical characteristics.

Lazygoose’s Kickproof quilt is not only a functional and innovative solution to the common problem of kicking quilts during sleep but also a testament to the importance of design in improving everyday experiences. With its unique features and thoughtful design, this quilt provides children with the comfort and protection they need for a good night's sleep.
