Wang Museum: A Tribute to Light and Literature

Architectural Lighting Meets Traditional Chinese Concepts in a Memorial Hall

Wang Museum, a tribute to renowned Chinese writer Wang Zengqi, is an architectural marvel that blends traditional Chinese concepts with innovative lighting design. The project, helmed by Tongji Architectural Design Co., Ltd, is a testament to the power of design in evoking cultural heritage and literary brilliance.

The inspiration for the Wang Museum stems from Wang Zengqi's literary work and the cultural characteristics of his hometown. The design team sought to create a reproduction of the hometown light environment described by Wang, aiming for a bright and gentle lighting atmosphere that evokes an elegant, rural ambiance. The project is a unique blend of architectural lighting, functional design, visual effects, and energy control, all working together to create a distinct atmosphere.

The realization of this design was a meticulous process. The illumination color temperature adopts a differentiated design to balance the iconicity of the hall and the integrity of the traditional historical district. The 3000K color temperature is well integrated into the surrounding historical district environment. This attention to detail extends to the interior lighting design, which enhances the perception of the indoor light environment from the outdoor space.

The Wang Museum covers a total of 9487 square meters and was built over a span of a year and a half, from May 2019 to October 2020. The project was a collaborative effort, with team members Xiu Yang, Limin Jiang, Xingru Chen, Xiaqing Xu, Xueting Ge, Yiting Du, Wenjing Ge, Jiani Lu, Difei Wang, and Yuhang Dai all contributing to its success.

Despite the challenges faced, such as achieving high-quality lighting details and integrating the design of the building and luminaires, the team managed to overcome these obstacles. The outdoor landscape lighting pays particular attention to the design of the water reflection effect, creating a light environment that complements the water scenery.

The Wang Museum has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2021. This award is given to designs that showcase outstanding expertise and innovation, and the Wang Museum certainly fits the bill. With its blend of traditional Chinese concepts and modern lighting design, the Wang Museum is a shining example of how design can pay tribute to cultural heritage and literary brilliance.
