Selfie Konditori: A Joyful and Insta-Photogenic Dessert Bar

Creating a Bright Oasis in Tromso, Norway

This eatery in Tromso, Norway, aims to create a small oasis of brightness in the sometimes long and dreary northern days and nights. The client's request to make the space Insta-photogenic added an exciting challenge to the project. The design team, led by Creative Director Alex Kovachev and Designer Gergana Panteva, embraced this request and set out to create a space that would not only be visually stunning but also facilitate the taking of selfies.

The interior of Selfie Konditori is a reflection of the theme of self-reflection and joy. The materials used, such as brass, mirrored fixtures, and glossy bespoke furniture, all contribute to the idea of "the perfect selfie." The space is adorned with floral ornaments and intricate brass details, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere.

With a total area of 130 square meters, Selfie Konditori offers ample space for guests to enjoy their desserts and capture memorable moments. The colorful features in the space are molded to fit the user's needs, creating an energizing experience that encourages interaction and social media sharing.

The design process for Selfie Konditori started in January 2019 and was completed in September 2019 in Tromso, Norway. The team approached the project with a concept to create a decor with bright, warm tones using marble, brass, and gold-toned mirrors. They also incorporated natural and warm textures, as well as plenty of greenery, to bring a touch of nature into the space, which is often lacking in the city due to the harsh climate.

One of the main challenges faced by the design team was to ensure that the space not only provided a beautiful backdrop for guests' pictures but also facilitated the taking of selfies. To achieve this, slanted small mirrors were installed onto a wall clad with roses, setting a scene for an almost surreal and very memorable selfie.

Selfie Konditori's unique design and attention to detail have earned it recognition in the design community. The project was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Selfie Konditori stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to creating a better world through fulfilling and positive experiences.
