Rikchari: Sustainable Coffee Packaging Design

A Blend of Art, Sustainability, and Culture

Rikchari, a socially responsible coffee brand from Peru, has unveiled its new packaging design that reflects its commitment to sustainability and showcases the rich cultural heritage of the region. Designed by Planetario, the packaging captures the essence of Rikchari's values and the unique qualities of their coffee.

The inspiration for the Rikchari packaging design came from the brand's name itself, which means "wake up" in Quechua, an indigenous language of Peru. The design team worked with the letter C to create a silhouette that resembles a coffee bean and an eye, symbolizing the awakening of the senses that comes with a cup of Rikchari coffee. The typographic construction of the logo is reminiscent of the geometric shapes found in the Inca empire of Peru, known as Tocapu, adding a touch of cultural significance to the design.

What sets Rikchari apart from other coffee brands is its strong commitment to sustainability. The coffee is grown in Chirinos, in the province of San Ignacio, at an altitude of 1700 meters above sea level, which provides the perfect conditions for growing high-quality Arabica coffee. The new branding and packaging reflect Rikchari's values of conscience, quality, humanity, and commitment. It is not just a coffee brand; it is a brand that cares about the environment, the community, and the people involved in the coffee production process.

The Rikchari packaging design is a testament to the brand's dedication to maintaining the quality and essence of the coffee when it reaches the final consumer. The design team used digital tools, such as Adobe programs, to create the design, and physical proofing was done to ensure every detail was perfect. The dimensions of the packaging are 160 mm x 240 mm, with a weight of 250 grams, providing a sleek and convenient packaging solution for coffee lovers.

As a socially responsible brand, Rikchari aims to not only provide a delicious cup of coffee but also to make a positive impact on the community. The coffee is produced in Cajamarca, a region with a long-standing tradition of coffee production. Rikchari seeks to raise the standards of coffee production, provide employment opportunities for local families, and support social projects in the community. The brand's values of conscience, humanity, commitment, and quality are deeply ingrained in every aspect of the design and production process.

The Rikchari packaging design overcame the challenge of creating a design that truly represents the brand's purpose and stands out in a competitive market. The previous packaging failed to communicate the brand's unique qualities and social purpose. With the new design, Rikchari competes as an organic product filled with passion, dedication, and a social mission. The packaging design serves as a visual representation of the brand's values and aspirations.

The Rikchari packaging design has garnered recognition and acclaim in the design community. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021, a prestigious accolade that recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.

Rikchari's sustainable coffee packaging design is a true reflection of the brand's commitment to quality, sustainability, and social responsibility. It not only captures the attention of coffee lovers but also tells a story of cultural heritage, environmental consciousness, and community empowerment. With every sip of Rikchari coffee, consumers can experience the rich flavors of Peru and contribute to a better world.
