Revolutionizing Virtual Events: Miro Distributed 2020

Creating an Immersive Virtual Experience Amid a Global Pandemic

In a world where physical gatherings have become a rarity, Mahmoud Abdelrahman and Alina Achiricioaei, along with their team, have redefined the concept of virtual events. Their creation, Miro Distributed 2020, is a testament to the power of innovation and design in overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic.

The inspiration for Miro Distributed 2020 came from the need to engage audiences in a virtual setting. With organizations struggling to maintain engagement levels in online events, the team at HUED sought to deliver an original and unforgettable immersive virtual experience. They decided to wow attendees with a space-themed event filled with tailored activities.

Miro Distributed 2020 was far from a typical virtual conference. The event, which attracted 30,000 registrants, featured 55 interactive and engaging boards for guests to use during the conference. These boards, designed by HUED, helped attendees learn, network, and attend workshops. The space-themed design was a hit among the attendees, who had the pleasure of navigating from planet to planet to explore and engage.

The creation of Miro Distributed 2020 was a technological feat. The HUED team utilized Adobe Illustrator and the Miro platform to create the 50 boards filled with spatial elements and visuals. Despite the time difference between Riyadh and California, the team successfully delivered the project within a week.

Research played a crucial role in the design process. The team conducted desktop research to understand the nature of the Space Theme and what elements could be used for the illustrations. They also explored the terminology and metaphors that could be applied. A Miro board was used to collect all findings, create a mood board, and build a mind map of the ideas.

The design of Miro Distributed 2020 was not without its challenges. The main obstacle was the time difference between Riyadh and California, which made the feedback loop more difficult. However, the team overcame this hurdle and delivered a project that was highly appreciated by attendees.

Miro Distributed 2020 is a shining example of how design and innovation can transform the way we experience events. The project was awarded the Iron A' Event and Happening Design Award in 2021, a testament to its well-designed, practical, and innovative nature. As we navigate through these uncertain times, projects like Miro Distributed 2020 give us a glimpse into the future of events and gatherings.
