Mehdi Atashfaraz, a designer from Gorgan, has created a unique lampshade named Bellda. The design was inspired by the sound waves produced by a bell, which increases awareness in the human brain, similar to light waves. The shape of the lampshade resembles the bowl of a bell, and the light bulb completes the image of a bell-clapper.
Bellda's unique properties lie in its simplicity and functionality. The lampshade is easy to install and can fit any light bulb without the need for tools or electrical expertise. Made from Polypropylene (PP) through plastic injection molding, the lampshade is light, resistant, and budget-friendly.
The lampshade measures 250mm in width, depth, and 300mm in height, with a side hole diameter of 75mm. Its design allows users to put it on and remove it from any hanging light bulb as easily as one would with a hat. This feature makes it an ideal lighting solution for budget or temporary housing where replacing light bulbs with more sophisticated lighting could be costly and risky.
Atashfaraz started the project in June 2020 and completed it in September 2020 in Gorgan. The design process involved extensive research into budget housing and the challenges of installing sophisticated lighting. The result is a low-cost, durable, and aesthetically pleasing lampshade that can instantly transform a simple light bulb into a pleasant lighting source.
Bellda's design also allows for personalization. Users can paint or add decorative elements to the lampshade, creating a unique character to match their taste. This feature, combined with its low production cost, similar to that of an ordinary plastic flowerpot, makes Bellda a revolutionary product in the lighting design industry.
The design's uniqueness and functionality earned it the Silver A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2021. The award recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. Bellda, with its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, certainly fits the bill.
