Laguna 182: A Landmark of Sustainable Living

Thaisa Nascimento Correa's Award-Winning Design Fuses Architecture and Nature

Thaisa Nascimento Correa's Laguna 182, a residential building design, is a testament to the harmonious blend of architecture, nature, and community. This design, which won the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021, is an embodiment of sustainable living and a potential icon for the city.

Correa's design inspiration came from the idea of a living building that could positively impact urban space and people's lives. The design aims to integrate technology, sustainability, and the users' relationship with the urban space. It is envisioned to provide contact with nature, healthy environments, and a sense of community. The building is designed to be a timeless icon, reflecting the integral human being and their connections and needs.

What sets Laguna 182 apart is its unique design properties. The building features an outline of curved and sinuous lines, with unique terraces that switch positions on each floor, providing each apartment with its own private gardens. This movement flows vertically throughout the building, surrounded by natural vegetation that integrates with the architecture, enhancing the quality of life and impacting the relationship of users with sustainability, community, and urban spaces.

The building is realized through a combination of concrete structure, glass, ceramic, galvanized steel, ACM (Aluminum Composite Material), natural plants, LED light, and certified wood. The choice of materials reflects the design's lightness and warmth, inviting human interaction on the building's sidewalk.

The development consists of a residential building with twenty-nine floors, two apartments per floor, totaling 41 apartments on 14 different floor plans. The terraces feature a cantilevered concrete structure. The design also includes solutions for energy efficiency, urban gardening, conscious consumption, thermal acoustic comfort, correct discharge, and recycling with local cooperatives.

Located in Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil, the project started in January 2021 and was completed in 2023. The design reflects extensive research on the impact of environments on health, biophilia, and user habits, aiming to innovate the way of living locally. The challenge of this project was to create a design that could be a landmark in the city and simultaneously impact the users' way of life.

In conclusion, Laguna 182 is a testament to Thaisa Nascimento Correa's innovative and contemporary architectural design approach. It is a design that not only stands out for its aesthetic appeal but also for its commitment to sustainability and community living. It is a design that truly embodies the essence of a living building, one that is in harmony with nature and the urban environment.
