Islamic Villa: Preserving Culture and Tradition in Al Madinah al Monawara

A Unique Design that Highlights Cultural Identity

Located in the second holiest city in Islamic culture, the Islamic Villa stands as a testament to the client's commitment to preserving the cultural identity of the region. The design incorporates elements from Islamic architecture, including the iconic Masjid al Nabawi, one of the largest mosques in the world, built by the Islamic prophet Muhammad himself.

What sets this project apart is its focus on maintaining cultural traditions and creating a harmonious blend with the environment. The villa is designed to provide privacy and separate spaces for men and women, reflecting the cultural norms of the region. Separate entrances and corridors ensure that each gender has their own designated areas within the villa.

The challenges faced during the design process were numerous, but the designer successfully overcame them to create a stunning final product. One of the main challenges was achieving the appropriate proportions and unity of design elements in the facade while ensuring the functionality and efficient use of space. The high-temperature climate of the region was another critical factor that had to be considered. To combat the intense heat, narrow windows were used to minimize the entry of sunlight and heat waves. Additionally, G.R.C arches and wooden Mashrabeya were incorporated into the facade to provide shading areas and reduce the need for excessive air conditioning.

The Islamic Villa spans three floors, with the ground floor housing separate men's and women's councils, two entrances, a family area, and a kitchen. The first floor is dedicated to the family, with bedrooms, a living area, and another kitchen. The top floor serves as a rest area, featuring two bedrooms, a living area, a kitchen, and a maid's room.

Constructed using thermal wood, stone, paint, G.R.C, and double-glazed walls, the villa is designed to withstand the extreme temperatures of the region. The project, which started in November 2018, was realized in Madinah Monawarah, Saudi Arabia.

The Islamic Villa by Ahmed Samy Elmesallamy is a testament to the designer's commitment to preserving cultural heritage and creating a design that seamlessly integrates with its surroundings. This unique project has been recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in 2020, highlighting its well-designed, practical, and innovative characteristics that meet professional and industrial requirements.
