Villas Alba: A Sunrise-Inspired Seaside Retreat

Residential Design by Massimo Mercurio - Mercurio Design Lab

Nestled in Sentosa, Singapore, the twin villas of Villas Alba stand as a stunning testament to architectural ingenuity and the beauty of nature. Designed by Massimo Mercurio of Mercurio Design Lab, these residences draw inspiration from the sunrise, creating a seamless blend of form, function, and natural beauty.

Located on the tranquil eastern coast of Sentosa Island, Sentosa Cove offers a tropical resort living experience. Villas Alba, meaning "sunrise" in Italian, perfectly capture the essence of their surroundings. The semi-circular shape of the twin villas evokes the image of the sun rising on the horizon, mirroring the beauty of the nearby open sea. While not identical twins, these villas are close siblings, with minor variations that add to their unique charm.

What sets Villas Alba apart is their ability to seamlessly integrate the exterior and interior design. The warm and bright colors of the facade, including the terracotta roof with its red and orange hues, perfectly illustrate the colors of the sun. The travertine cladding adds a touch of warmth, creating a harmonious connection between the villas and their seaside location. Even the plates for dining and the custom-designed paintings on the walls maintain the mood and reinforce the sunrise-inspired theme.

Stepping inside Villas Alba, one is greeted by a dramatic double-height timber door that opens up to sweeping views of the canal and the golf course. The living and dining spaces feature extensive glazing and a timber pool deck, creating an uninterrupted connection between the interior and the open landscape beyond. The master bedroom overlooks the golf course, while the attic sitting room provides a cozy retreat with views of an intimate elevated courtyard lined with planters.

Constructed between 2009 and 2013, Villas Alba exemplify the optimal use of natural materials and sustainable strategies. The design not only enhances the neighborhood aesthetically but also responds to the tropical climate and the immediate context of water and the adjacent golf course. The layout planning also adheres to certain feng shui requirements, ensuring a harmonious and balanced living environment.

Recognized for its outstanding design, Villas Alba was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building, and Structure Design in 2021. This prestigious accolade celebrates the innovative and creative approach of the design, showcasing its technical and artistic excellence. Villas Alba truly exemplify the best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to the improvement of quality of life and making the world a better place.

With its breathtaking design and meticulous attention to detail, Villas Alba stands as a beacon of architectural brilliance in Sentosa Cove. Massimo Mercurio and his team at Mercurio Design Lab have created a masterpiece that not only captures the beauty of the sunrise but also offers a luxurious and serene seaside retreat for its residents.
