Are you tired of the same old watch faces on your smartwatch? Alex Pan Yong felt the same way and decided to create a watch face that exudes a cool and unique feeling. Inspired by the way people naturally read the time, such as "Ten forty-five," Alex developed the TEN45 watch face. The result is a design that combines English and numbers to provide a natural and intuitive way to read the time.
What sets "The English Numbers" apart is its easy-to-read layout and unique dial design. While maintaining a futuristic look and feel, the watch face provides essential information such as battery life, date, and daily steps in a quick and accessible manner. The dial's layout ensures that users can effortlessly obtain the information they need while enjoying a visually striking design.
The realization of this design is made possible through two versions. The native Samsung Gear version is available for Samsung Gear watch users and can be obtained from the Samsung Gear Store. Developed with GalaxyWatchDesigner, a tool for creating watch faces from Samsung, this version ensures compatibility with various Samsung Gear watches, including Gear S2, S3, Sports, and Galaxy Watch.
For users of the WatchMaker app, there is also a version available. Downloadable from the WatchMaker app and syncable with your smartwatch, this version expands the compatibility to all Android smartwatches. Simply install the WatchMaker app on your watch to load up the watch face and enjoy its unique features.
With a width and height of 400px, "The English Numbers" is designed to fit perfectly on your smartwatch screen. Its futuristic and versatile aesthetic makes it suitable for both casual and sporty looks, offering multiple color themes to match your style. Interacting with the watch face is a breeze, with a simple tap anywhere to change the color in the Samsung Tizen native version and a tap on the small dot at the right lower corner in the WatchMaker version to switch themes.
The development of "The English Numbers" took place from May 2017 to July 2018 in Singapore. Throughout the project, Alex Pan Yong conducted extensive research to create a watch face that breaks away from traditional digital designs. Starting with a simple version that only displayed English and numbers, feedback from friends and users led to the addition of other information such as weather, date, month, and steps. Through experimentation and refinement, the current design, named "English And Numbers IV," emerged, striking the perfect balance between functionality and futuristic aesthetics.
Overcoming technical challenges during development, Alex Pan Yong successfully coded the switch for the WatchMaker version, allowing users to change the color theme seamlessly. As a result, "The English Numbers" has received positive feedback from users on the Samsung App Store, with people loving its unique and user-friendly design.
As the proud creator of "The English Numbers," Alex Pan Yong holds the copyrights to this design. The intellectual property and copyright credits for the visual content of this design go to Pan Yong himself.
This exceptional design has also been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award. "The English Numbers" received the Bronze A' Interface, Interaction, and User Experience Design Award in 2021. This award celebrates designs that showcase outstanding creativity and ingenuity, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. With its strong technical and creative skills, "The English Numbers" contributes to improving the quality of life and making the world a better place.
