Packaging Design for Taiwanese Souvenir Jasmine Tea

Why black was chosen to express pure white jasmine? Since jasmines bloom at night only, therefore the making of jasmine tea was also conducted at night, typical "working at night". The color of dark night was chosen as the dominant color of the package, with the tone of Eastern palace to express the noble demeanor of this queen of night. Jasmine flowers were depicted as mesmerizing as glittering stars in the night sky through thorough hot foil stamping.

PH7 Creative Lab, in collaboration with Jasmine Huatan, has created a stunning packaging design for Taiwanese souvenir jasmine tea. This unique design combines elements of Eastern palace style with modern aesthetics, resulting in a package that not only showcases the beauty of jasmine tea but also captures the essence of Taiwanese culture.

The design team faced several challenges during the creation of this packaging. One of the main challenges was the limited availability of pesticide-free jasmine in Huatan Township, where the tea is produced. To overcome this, the team conducted extensive research into the target market and expressed the timeless value and status of jasmine in Eastern culture through innovative visual design. This not only changed the public's perception of agricultural products but also successfully positioned jasmine tea in the high-end market.

The packaging design features a dominant black color, symbolizing the pure white jasmine flowers that bloom only at night. This choice reflects the traditional practice of making jasmine tea during the nighttime hours. The package also incorporates elements of Eastern palace style, conveying the noble and elegant nature of jasmine. Through meticulous hot foil stamping, the jasmine flowers are depicted as mesmerizing as glittering stars in the night sky, adding a touch of enchantment to the design.

To address the challenge of high-end tea preservation, the design team opted for uniform cans with self-adhesive labels. This approach allowed for cost-effective production and flexibility in managing different flavors. The labels are printed with cold foil stamping, creating a metallic texture reminiscent of iron cans. The gift box, made of embossed art papers, features hot foil stamping and Eastern-style paper cutting, further enhancing the overall aesthetic.

The Refined of Jasmine packaging design showcases the use of multiple materials, printing techniques, and structural combinations. This not only creates a visually striking package but also demonstrates the design team's expertise and commercial value. The gift box measures 271 x 217 x 93 mm, while the canned tea comes in two sizes: 150g (87 x 87 x 150 mm) and 100g (87 x 87 x 107 mm).

This exceptional packaging design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category. The award acknowledges designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
