Fealand's Hill Mansion: A Testament to Nature-Inspired Landscape Design

Winner of the Silver A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award 2022

Fealand's Hill Mansion, a landscape design project in Nanjing, China, is a stunning example of how nature can inspire and shape our built environments. The design, which draws inspiration from the region's famous red maple scenery, has won the prestigious Silver A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award in 2022.

The Hill Mansion project, located in the Qixia District, takes full advantage of its proximity to the Yangtze River and the local natural landscape. The design's unique properties lie in its seamless integration with the surrounding environment, creating a natural experience that knows no boundaries. The undulating skyline, shaped by the local flora, is a key feature of this design.

Fealand's design team, led by Chief Designer Ji Liu, utilized a range of technologies and techniques to realize their vision. The lighting, primarily functional, avoids high-glare light sources and incorporates solar modules and a time-sharing control system to reduce energy consumption. The plants chosen for the project are primarily local species, supplemented with local wild flowering vegetation, to create a low-maintenance, ecologically friendly landscape.

The design also features a central pool at the site's lowest point. This pool serves not only as a landscape feature but also as a functional element for collecting and purifying rainwater. This innovative approach to water management is indicative of the thoughtfulness and attention to detail that went into every aspect of the Hill Mansion project.

One of the key challenges faced by the design team was ensuring a sufficient water supply for the landscaped pool. To address this, the team designed a system that prioritizes the use of collected rainwater. The pool is equipped with an additional water storage module, ensuring a reserve supply for times when rainwater is insufficient.

The Hill Mansion project is a testament to Fealand's commitment to innovative, sustainable design. The project's success, as evidenced by its Silver A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award, is a testament to the power of nature-inspired design and the potential for landscape architecture to enhance our built environments.
