The Wine Barrel Classic, designed by Antonia Skaraki, breaks the established idea that quality wine can only exist in a traditional container. This innovative packaging design brings the natural habitat of wine, the barrel, to the forefront, while democratizing the wine tasting process.

The inspiration behind The Wine Barrel Classic was to create a visual representation of a wine's natural home and transform wine tasting from an elitist ritual to a laid-back evening with friends. The packaging design features a tap, symbolizing the shared experience of enjoying wine in a relaxed setting.

What sets The Wine Barrel Classic apart is its ability to bring the perception of good wine out of the cellar and into the hands of wine enthusiasts. This design introduces a new wine category, "wine out of the box," which involves transferring wine from a large barrel to a smaller barrel, preserving its natural habitat and flavor.

The Wine Barrel Classic is made from recyclable cardboard, making it an environmentally friendly choice. Its hexagonal carton bag houses an aluminum bag with a plastic tap, allowing for easy serving and transportation. With its convenient handle, The Wine Barrel Classic is also a perfect gift for friends and family.

Antonia Skaraki, the creative director behind The Wine Barrel Classic, aimed to challenge the notion that good wine is an unreachable and elitist hobby. By using creativity to democratize the art of wine tasting, this packaging design brings a fresh perspective to the industry.

The Wine Barrel Classic project began in October 2020 in Athens and is still ongoing. The design team, led by Antonia Skaraki as the creative director and Andreas Deskas as the art director, overcame the challenge of reversing the established idea of bottled wine and designing packaging that communicates the quality of wine taken directly from the barrel.

This innovative packaging design has been recognized for its excellence. The Wine Barrel Classic was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Wine Barrel Classic stands out for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world and providing fulfillment and positive feelings to wine enthusiasts.
