Two Arches: A Modern Reflection of Iranian Architecture

A Calming Villa Inspired by Iranian Gardens

Two Arches villa is located in a calming environment in Damavand, Iran. The design process of the villa tries to reflect the origins of Iranian architecture from a modern point of view. All the principles and spatial hierarchy are considered in the plan design of this building to provide privacy and comfort for its inhabitants. Inspired by Iranian gardens, a waterway is positioned as a main axis of the site. A white plane has also been used as a form between two arches to divide public and private spaces. In order to connect these areas on the first floor, a bridge has been used as a corridor.

Hossein Hassani and Amin Habibi, the talented designers behind Two Arches, have created a villa that pays homage to the rich architectural heritage of Iran while incorporating modern design elements. The villa is situated in a serene location in Damavand, providing a tranquil retreat for its residents.

One of the key inspirations for the design of Two Arches villa is the concept of Iranian gardens. The designers have positioned a waterway as the main axis of the site, creating a sense of harmony and tranquility. This waterway not only adds to the aesthetic appeal of the villa but also serves as a focal point for the entire design.

To divide the public and private spaces within the villa, a white plane has been used as a form between two arches. This not only adds a unique visual element to the design but also provides a clear distinction between different areas of the villa. The use of arches is a nod to traditional Iranian architecture, while the white plane adds a contemporary touch.

In order to connect the different areas of the villa on the first floor, a bridge has been incorporated as a corridor. This not only adds a functional element to the design but also creates an interesting visual feature. The bridge serves as a link between the public and private spaces, further enhancing the overall flow and functionality of the villa.

One of the key design considerations for Two Arches villa is the orientation of the windows. All the windows have been positioned towards the main courtyard and the street, reflecting the concept of extroversion and introversion of Iranian architecture. This not only allows for ample natural light to enter the villa but also creates a strong connection between the interior and exterior spaces.

The construction of Two Arches villa combines concrete and metal with brick cladding. The columns and the floor of the building are made of a metal structure, providing a sturdy foundation. The rounded arches, typically made of compact brick and plaster, have been shaped using concrete and then placed on top of the metal structure. Finally, bricks have been used as a finishing for the exterior and interior walls, adding a touch of warmth and texture to the design.

Two Arches villa is a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of Hossein Hassani, Amin Habibi, and their team at AAD Architecture Office. The attention to detail, the incorporation of traditional elements, and the seamless integration of modern design make this villa a truly unique and remarkable project.

As the design is still in the implementation phase, the full structure and technology of Two Arches villa are yet to be completed. However, the use of concrete and metal as the main materials, along with the brick cladding, reflects the initial concept and design intentions of the project.

Located in Damavand, Iran, Two Arches villa is a stunning example of contemporary Iranian architecture. The design process took into consideration the rich and traditional background of the region, resulting in a spatial quality and volume that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Despite the challenges posed by the small dimensions of the site, the designers were able to create a minimal and formal volumetric design that maximizes the available space. The result is a villa that offers privacy, comfort, and a sense of tranquility to its inhabitants.
