Henke Carrano's inspiration for Pudu came from a common problem many pet owners face: finding a pet house that is comfortable for their pets and aesthetically pleasing enough to fit in with their home decor. The designer took a common-sense approach, drawing inspiration from the traditional idea of a house with a roof and a rectangular base, but with a twist. Pudu is not just a pet house; it is a functional piece of furniture that can be customized to suit the owner's taste and the pet's comfort.
The uniqueness of Pudu lies in its minimalist design and functionality. Its main structure is made from tubular steel bent into the shape of a standard yard-like dog house, reinforced with welded metal rods and powder-coated in black. The canvas is braided through the structure, forming a hammock for the pet to rest on. The canvas is easily removable for cleaning and can be changed to match the room's decor. This design allows the pet house to be placed in various types of rooms, including outdoors, as its materials are durable and waterproof.
Creating Pudu was not without its challenges. Henke Carrano had to carefully choose the thickness of the structure to ensure stability without making it visually heavy. Choosing the fabric was another challenge. While canvas is not the first fabric that comes to mind when thinking of comfort, it fits perfectly with the concept of this pet house. The result is a pet house that is comfortable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing.
The Pudu pet house was designed in August 2020 in Sao Miguel Arcanjo and Ponta Grossa, Brazil, and was exhibited in Novos Talentos Brasileiros in Rio de Janeiro in November 2020. The design was awarded Silver in A' Pet Care, Toys, Supplies and Products for Animals Design Award in 2022, a testament to its innovative design and functionality.
With Pudu, Henke Carrano has successfully reimagined pet furniture, creating a piece that is not just functional but also aesthetically pleasing. It is a perfect example of how design can transform everyday items into stylish pieces of decor.
