The Scout 5000 stands out with its unique shape and features, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Indoors, it allows pet owners to experience the world through their pet's eyes with live video streaming via the Hubble app. It also provides bark notifications and two-way communication. Outdoors, it offers accurate and reliable GPS tracking, escape notifications, and an IP54 rating for outdoor protection. The device also monitors activity, recording video on a built-in 2GB memory that can be remotely activated via the Hubble app.
The device is built on a highly integrated chipset solution for mobile, WiFi, and BLE communication, as well as GPS. The construction of the cabinet is extremely durable and can withstand high force dog bites. The device measures 51.87mm in height, 96.03mm in width, and 38.70mm in length.
The product consists of the device itself, mobile application software, and a cloud service. The device works as a connected remote-controlled camera with GPS function, controlled via a mobile application. The connectivity is facilitated by a cloud service which communicates with the device and provides the link for the mobile application.
The design project started in Hong Kong in January 2014 and finished in January 2015. The early prototypes were exhibited during the 2015 consumer electronics show in Las Vegas. The design was driven by the aim to create an iconic design that compromises neither features nor ergonomics, maintaining a sense of utility, function, efficiency, and practicality. The design language of the Scout 5000 epitomizes the notion of purposefulness.
Combining ergonomics and aesthetics was a significant challenge. This was achieved by creating and refining multiple prototypes to select the most comfortable shape in an elegant yet functional and ergonomic form factor. The tooling complexity with minimizing part lines and screws was achieved by highlighting connection with a chrome-plated finish.
The Motorola Scout 5000 was awarded the Golden A' Pet Care, Toys, Supplies and Products for Animals Design Award in 2015. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
