BT Space: A Modern Office Design Inspired by Floating

Blending Humanity, History, and Environment

This project, located in Beitou District, Taiwan, reflects the local culture and aims to create an architectural appearance that blends with the environment and interacts with it.

BT Space, designed by Chia Chen Chang, is a unique office space that combines humanity, history, and the environment to create a modern commercial space. Inspired by the concept of floating, the design aims to present a sleek, suspended, and light appearance that harmonizes with its surroundings.

The main body of the building is supported by steel, while a suspended staircase extends upward, enhancing the visual strength of the structure. The use of transparent light boxes and cold metal materials creates a penetrating space that is both modern and full of humanity. By incorporating recycled materials from the old building, the design seamlessly blends the past with the present.

One of the key features of BT Space is the utilization of the space underneath the elevated building. This area serves as a pedestrian road, freeing up the main space on the upper floor to be separated from the street and allowing for a private and transparent environment. From this height, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the forest park and the mountains.

The interior space of BT Space is characterized by metallic ironwork with mineral paint, giving it a textured and broader appearance. The exterior is finished with tempered glass, further enhancing the building's sleek and modern aesthetic.

Retaining elements of the old building, the designer repurposed them as screens in the meeting area. The old iron window grilles were covered with glass, allowing the lighting function to reflect their beautiful patterns. This creates a sense of rhythm through light and shadow, while also serving as a partition between meeting spaces.

BT Space, located in Beitou District, Taipei City, was completed in March 2021. The design project started in January 2021 and was inspired by the rich history and hot spring culture of the area. By incorporating grass futons, symbolic of the Japanese era, the design juxtaposes history with modernity, creating a visually impactful space.

Overcoming the challenge of balancing commercial value with humanistic meaning, BT Space successfully creates a people-oriented environment that respects history and the surrounding environment. The design's unique concept of floating and its integration of recycled materials make it a standout example of modern office design.

BT Space was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
