Tara: A Multi-Functional Lamp Bringing Joy and Connection

Designed by Tara Derakhshanfar

Tara is a unique and versatile lamp that aims to reignite the joy of connecting with our environment. With its wireless and portable design, Tara offers a range of functions that make it the perfect lighting choice for various settings.

Tara, inspired by the nostalgic memories of fireflies illuminating the night, is a multi-functional lamp designed by Tara Derakhshanfar. This innovative creation is not just a lamp; it is a symbol of joy and connection. The designer's childhood memories of watching fireflies light up the night sky inspired the creation of Tara, a lamp that brings that same sense of wonder and delight into our lives.

What sets Tara apart from other lamps is its versatility and functionality. This rechargeable lamp can be placed on a table or hung from a suitable spot, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor use. Its wireless design makes it a perfect choice for restaurants, cafes, and resorts nestled deep in forests or on beaches. The adjustable light level allows users to save energy or use it as a bedside lamp, while spreading the wings provides even more light for activities like reading.

The design of Tara is both elegant and practical. The main frame is made of translucent acrylic material with optical grain, ensuring even illumination of light. The wings and base are made of plastic, while the handles are made of rubber plastic to enhance ergonomics. Tara features a main cylinder and a main spring in each wing, along with a side spring and two side cylinders. By pressing the button on top of the lamp, the main cylinder activates, transferring energy to the side cylinders in each wing, allowing the wings to spread with the help of the springs.

Interacting with Tara is effortless. The lamp features three buttons: an on/off switch, an adjust brightness button, and a spread wing button. The ergonomic design of the handles allows for easy hanging from various spots. When the wings are spread, LED strips inside them are switched on, providing increased light for activities such as reading. Charging the lamp is as simple as placing it on its wireless charger.

The creation of Tara was not without its challenges. The designer faced limitations in design facilities and encountered difficulties in naming the lamp. However, after hours of contemplation, the name "Tara" was chosen, which holds deep meaning. In Sanskrit, Tara means "light of the soul," while in old Persian, it means "the star."

Tara has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2022. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit creativity, resourcefulness, and technical excellence. Tara's incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology contributes to quality of life improvements, making it a true gem in the world of lighting design.

Tara, with its unique design and multifunctionality, brings joy and connection into our lives. It is a testament to the power of design to evoke emotions and create meaningful experiences. With Tara, we can once again experience the enchantment of fireflies and the magic they bring to our nights.
