Orchid Light, a creation of designer Marc Pascal, is a testament to the beauty of nature and the power of design. Drawing inspiration from the complex root systems of trees and the delicate form of orchid flowers, Pascal has crafted a light that is as much a work of art as it is a functional piece of home decor.

The Orchid Light is suspended from the ceiling, giving it a kinetic quality as it responds to air movement in the room. LED globes are mounted behind some of the hand-dyed polycarbonate flowers, casting shadows throughout the room and creating a captivating spectacle whether lit or unlit. The power hub, inspired by tree root systems, allows the LED globes to be powered at a distance from the source, adding to the light's unique properties.

The creation process of the Orchid Light is as unique as the design itself. Polycarbonate flowers are given a new shape through heat application, and reinforcement gussets are placed on each flower to enhance the product's longevity. The power hub consists of copper scourers cast into urethane, creating two halves that can conduct a positive and negative charge. These halves are then cast in a urethane casing, creating a unique system for powering the LED globes.

The Orchid Light is available in various sizes, ranging from 500mm with 5 LED globes to 1400mm with 12 LED globes. Each light is made to order, allowing clients to choose their preferred colours and collaborate in the creation process. This boutique, handmade approach gives clients a personal relationship with the light, further enhancing its appeal.

Despite the challenges involved in creating a naturalistic and seductive 3-dimensional flower from flat polycarbonate plastic and developing a unique power hub, Pascal's persistence and constant experimentation have resulted in a complex and unique design. His work process, infused with delight and a focus on practicality and durability, produces works that draw in the viewer and often evoke an irresistible urge to touch the objects.

Recognized for its outstanding design and innovation, the Orchid Light was awarded Silver in A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2017.
