Luckinfo Ocean Refreshing Base Serum

Minimalistic Packaging Design Inspired by Thalassotherapy

The Luckinfo Ocean Refreshing Base Serum is a packaging design that draws inspiration from Thalassotherapy, utilizing ocean-based ingredients such as Jeju lava seawater. Designed by Wai Ho Cheung, this serum aims to provide moisturizing, repairing, and softening effects. The packaging design features a minimalistic and rigorous surface, with a unique wave illustration inside the box that corresponds to the marine theme. The bottle itself incorporates oil droplets sedimentation technology, creating a mesmerizing blue droplet at the bottom. Let's dive deeper into the unique properties and design realization of this innovative packaging.

On the outer packaging, the Luckinfo Ocean Refreshing Base Serum maintains a minimal and rigorous surface, aligning with the brand's image. However, upon opening the box, users are greeted with a captivating wave illustration that echoes the marine ingredients used in the serum. The special cutting on the folding box exposes a portion of the illustration at the bottom, enriching the pale surface and enticing users to explore further.

The bottle of the serum is made of glass, with a frosted top that transitions from the pearl white lid to the transparent part of the bottle. This frosted section serves multiple purposes. Firstly, it covers any cloudy mixture that may form while shaking the bottle, ensuring a visually pleasing appearance. Secondly, it allows users to witness the mesmerizing change of the blue droplet as they shake the bottle, adding an interactive element to the design.

The unique blue droplet is achieved through oil droplets sedimentation technology. Initially, the droplet appears as a single light blue droplet at the bottom of the bottle. However, users are required to shake the bottle to mix the liquid, causing the droplet to split into numerous tiny drops. This transformation is represented in the wave illustration, which is filled with countless little waterdrops, creating a harmonious connection between the packaging design and the product's functionality.

The lid of the bottle is pearl white and semi-spheric, resembling the shape of a droplet. To cover the neck of the lid, a light blue ribbon is inserted, further enhancing the visual coherence of the design. The dimensions of the Luckinfo Ocean Refreshing Base Serum are 50mm in width, 50mm in depth, and 95mm in height.

The design of the Luckinfo Ocean Refreshing Base Serum caters to the online market in China, specifically targeting young consumers born between 1995-2000. The packaging design incorporates eye-catching elements, Morandi-color tones, and an illustrated appearance, aligning with the preferences of the target audience.

One of the main challenges in creating this design was finding the balance between minimalism and attractiveness. The brand image of Luckinfo leans towards minimalism and scientific aesthetics, while the online market demands visually captivating packaging. Wai Ho Cheung successfully achieved this balance by combining a minimalistic surface with an alluring wave illustration and an interactive element through the oil droplets sedimentation technology.

The Luckinfo Ocean Refreshing Base Serum packaging design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category in 2022. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that contribute to quality of life improvements. The design showcases strong technical and creative skills, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology, ultimately making the world a better place.
