Vintage Look: A Unique Hair Salon Design by Fu Kai Bai

Creating a Check-in Spot for Hair Salon Enthusiasts

Hair salons are springing up at the south of Taichung City; hence, how to create a space different from the others was the main task for this design. After grasping the trends among society, especially the young generation, the designer has constructed the space with the concept of A Check-in Spot, encouraging clients to take photos as souvenirs. The color tones, the materials, and the furnishings are perfectly arranged to create a comforting balance for this hair salon; when people step in, they would want to take photos and share them online.

This hair salon design, aptly named Vintage Look, stands out from the crowd with its unique approach to creating a memorable experience for its customers. Designed by Fu Kai Bai, this commercial space is more than just a place to get a haircut - it is a visual feast that combines vintage aesthetics with modern sensibilities.

One of the key features of Vintage Look is its rich and luxurious atmosphere. The space is filled with carefully chosen colors and materials that exude elegance and sophistication. For instance, arch mirrors embedded with titanium plating bars eliminate the dullness of standard mirrors, while vintage-like modeling wall lamps add a touch of nostalgia. The overall ambiance is exotic and captivating, offering customers an experience they have never felt before.

What sets Vintage Look apart is its commitment to sustainability. The wave modeling on the walls is reproduced from recycled fiberboards, and the imported marble-imitating tiles on the floor are certified as green products. Even the system cabinets are made of wooden plates from reclaimed forests. This design proves that luxury and environmental consciousness can go hand in hand.

Technologically, Vintage Look incorporates various elements to enhance the customer experience. Titanium plating mirrors are strategically placed to create layers within the space, expanding customers' vision and allowing them to observe their hair transformation in detail. French windows and three-layered doors draw in ample natural light and fresh air, creating a relaxing environment for both customers and staff.

The Vintage Look hair salon spans 72 square meters and includes a hairdressing area, a hair washing area, an equipment storage, a counter, and a pedestrian arcade. The design took approximately one year to complete, from September 2020 to September 2021, in Taichung City, Taiwan.

Fu Kai Bai's research into the underlying challenges of the space led to innovative solutions. The lack of lighting and poor ventilation conditions were addressed by incorporating glasses and three-in-one ventilate doors at the front and back of the salon. The light-colored flooring enhances the sense of spaciousness, while the reflective characteristics of the mirrors visually expand the space.

Overall, Vintage Look is a testament to Fu Kai Bai's creativity and attention to detail. The use of a rich dark-blue color as the leading tone, combined with titanium-plated mirror frames and modeling lamps, creates an artistic atmosphere. Each mirror frame is like a work of art, making every customer feel like they are part of a masterpiece.

Recognized for its outstanding design, Vintage Look was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade is given to designs that meet professional and industrial requirements, showcasing practicality, innovation, and integration of industry best practices.
