The inspiration for Green Challenge 365 came from the increased use of wooden disposable products since the onset of the pandemic. Recognizing the environmental implications of this trend, Sung Ho Nam decided to initiate a campaign for forest protection. The calendar serves as a daily reminder of the importance of saving wooden disposables and the time and effort it takes to grow a tree.
What sets Green Challenge 365 apart from other calendars is its interactive nature. Users can stamp a leaf on the calendar each day they save on wooden disposables. As they actively participate in saving, the tree on the calendar grows richer, symbolizing their contribution to forest protection. This interaction is intended to raise concerns about the use of disposable wood products and encourage savings.
The calendar, measuring 510 mm wide and 625 mm long, comes with a stamp and a green ink pad. The design team used the concept of leaving blanks to create interest and curiosity, encouraging users to fill in the tree with green seals. This interaction between the product and the user is likened to eating popcorn - once you start, you want to keep going.
The Green Challenge 365 project was conducted in Seoul, South Korea, from December 2020 to March 2021. The product is being distributed free of charge to various educational institutions, not for profit, but to inform the public of the healthy values that mankind should share. The design team is also considering developing an app to reduce production costs and increase free distribution.
The Silver A' Social Design Award that Green Challenge 365 won is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
