Moon Light Basin: A Poetic VIP Lounge

Designing a Dreamlike Space for Serenity and Luxury

In the heart of Taichung City, designer Hsiang Kai Yang has crafted a truly unique and enchanting space known as Moon Light Basin. This VIP lounge, located within a commercial office building, offers a serene and luxurious retreat for guests seeking an escape from the bustling city.

The inspiration for Moon Light Basin comes from the magical transition from dream to reality that occurs during the night. The dim moonlight casts a poetic glow over the space, creating an otherworldly atmosphere. As guests walk through the winding path, they feel as if they have entered a different realm, a place of tranquility and stability.

One of the key challenges in designing Moon Light Basin was the limited space and the need to accommodate a large number of people. With only one exit and source of light, the space required careful consideration of sound insulation and efficient use of artificial light.

To address these challenges, Hsiang Kai Yang employed a double wall construction method to improve sound insulation and maximize space utilization. Natural stone texture foam boards were used to buffer audio reflection, reducing echo in the confined space. This not only enhances the acoustics but also adds a unique texture to the walls.

The design of Moon Light Basin also incorporates curved walls, creating multiple layers of space that add richness and interest. Mirrors are strategically placed in the more constricted areas to enhance the sense of visual expansiveness and extend the transmission of light into the darker corners.

With its modern and natural design elements, Moon Light Basin offers a truly immersive experience. The combination of natural stone textures, deep colors, and flawless mirrors creates a multi-dimensional space that captivates the senses.

The project was completed in November 2021, and the design has garnered recognition and acclaim. Moon Light Basin was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award recognizes the innovative and creative approach taken by Hsiang Kai Yang in crafting a space that authentically combines luxury, serenity, and functionality.
