Flaming Bloom: An Artistic Resting Gazebo

Unveiling a New World of Design

Flaming Bloom takes its inspiration from Guangzhou's reputation as the "City of Flowers." Designed as a large flower sculpture for the New Park in Guangzhou Lingnan New World, this installation reflects the surrounding scenery through its spiral stainless steel structure. As visitors move around the sculpture, the reflected images flow and change, creating a mesmerizing visual experience. The flower-shaped gate, standing at an impressive 5 meters in height, invites people to step into a new world.

What sets Flaming Bloom apart is its artistic and functional purpose. Acting as a resting gazebo, it provides shelter from the intense sunlight, allowing pedestrians to take a moment of respite. The shape of the flower serves as a symbol, representing the beauty of nature and ecological growth. To showcase these details, the design team developed twisted unit pieces and a specialized plating process. The twisted mirrors on the curved surfaces reflect the scenery in three dimensions, while the eco-dome composed of curved units creates an illusionary effect as visitors move through it.

The realization of Flaming Bloom required innovative technology and craftsmanship. The team meticulously crafted the twisted unit elements and perfected an electroplating process to bring out the natural ecological growth details. The result is a stunning combination of art and technology, where the curved surfaces reflect the surrounding environment, creating a dynamic and immersive experience for visitors.

Wendi Wu, along with the talented team members Chen Zhao and Liang Chulin, overcame various creative and technical challenges to bring Flaming Bloom to life. The installation serves as an artwork for public spaces, showcasing the team's ingenuity in incorporating a mechanized "DNA" element. The mirrored steel surface and red-painted finish add to its visual appeal, and a new processing technique was invented and patented to achieve these finishes.

Flaming Bloom stands proudly at the center of a sunken garden park, providing both artistic beauty and functional shelter. Its twisted unit pieces, resembling the feathers of wings, create a sense of movement and intrigue. As visitors explore the gazebo, the twisted mirrors reflect the surrounding scenery, transforming the space into an enchanting eco-dome. This unique design has garnered recognition, earning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation category in 2022. This prestigious accolade celebrates designs that showcase technical and creative excellence, contributing to the improvement of quality of life.
