Oriental Fairyland: A Modern Interpretation of Song Dynasty Art and Culture

Integrating Elegance-Song Style into a Contemporary Residence

The Oriental Fairyland residence by GT.Deco combines the exquisite aesthetics of Song Dynasty art with modern living, creating a unique and harmonious living space.

Inspired by famous paintings of the Song Dynasty, GT.Deco's Oriental Fairyland incorporates four popular activities depicted in those artworks: "hanging paintings," "tea ceremony," "flower arranging," and "burning incense." Through a modern interpretation of forms, colors, and culture, these activities are seamlessly integrated into the interior decorations.

The furniture of the Song Dynasty is known for its simplicity in shape, with few decorations, and a neat, square, and straight style. Taking cues from this historical context, the designers of Oriental Fairyland aimed to present the integration of Song-style exquisiteness and modern living. They further enhanced the decoration articles, such as paintings, drawing inspiration from classic artworks of the Song Dynasty.

The spatial theme of Oriental Fairyland is "Elegance-Song Style." The design team sought to showcase the integration of Song-style aesthetics and modern residence concepts. By simplifying the construction procedure and optimizing the spatial layout, the design minimizes environmental impact while introducing natural scenery and abundant daylight, resulting in reduced energy consumption and a pleasant living environment.

The upholstery of the furniture in Oriental Fairyland is made of environmentally friendly artificial microfiber leather. This material is not only aesthetically pleasing but also waterproof, fireproof, wear-resistant, and dirt-resistant. It adds an artistic and humanistic touch to the interior furnishings, enhancing the overall ambiance of the residence.

With a project area of 240 square meters, Oriental Fairyland is a testament to the fusion of tradition and modernity. The design team, consisting of Sun Wei, Yang Jun, and Gu Yi from GT.Deco, meticulously planned and executed the project to create a space that embodies the essence of Song-style aesthetics.

Located in Weinan, Shanxi Province, Oriental Fairyland was completed between March 2021 and August 2021. Throughout the design process, the team conducted extensive research on the philosophy, furniture, painting, and tea art of the Song Dynasty. This research provided a thorough and comprehensive foundation for the design, allowing the team to create aesthetic scenes defined by the tones of Chinese ink-wash paintings and natural textures.

Despite the challenges posed by the site's natural surroundings, the design team overcame obstacles such as furniture transportation and coordination with other professions involved in the project. The result is a stunning three-storey courtyard house that seamlessly blends into the local landscape while showcasing the elegance and charm of Song Dynasty art and culture.

Oriental Fairyland has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that showcase technical and creative skills while contributing to improvements in quality of life.
