Masu: A Japanese Restaurant Inspired by Zen Minimalism

Evoking the Essence of Japan in Hong Kong

Since feudal times in Japan, Masu was a wooden box used to measure rice, enough to find one person for the day. The owner of the restaurant wishes to evolve this concept to provide their customers with the true taste of Japan for one meal. Shedding all unnecessary flourishes, Masu's chef Kazuya Nemoto emphasizes using only the freshest local and regional ingredients, with traditional Japanese cooking techniques including Kobatayaki, sushi, and other specialties.

Located in the heart of Hong Kong, Masu is a Japanese restaurant that transports diners to the serene and minimalist world of Zen. Designed by J. Candice Interior Architects, this culinary haven combines the elegance of Japanese paper cutting with the simplicity of Zen minimalism.

The design of Masu is a testament to the beauty of natural materials. Stone, harvest wood, veneer, marble, and stainless steel come together harmoniously to create a space that exudes tranquility and authenticity. The use of slate and stone accents adds a touch of earthiness, grounding the space and creating a connection to nature.

With a total area of 1800 square feet, Masu offers a spacious and inviting dining experience. The open layout allows for a seamless flow between the different areas of the restaurant, creating an atmosphere of warmth and intimacy.

One of the standout features of Masu is its emphasis on traditional Japanese cooking techniques. Chef Kazuya Nemoto's dedication to using only the freshest local and regional ingredients ensures that every dish served at Masu is a true reflection of Japanese cuisine. From Kobatayaki to sushi, each dish is prepared with precision and care, allowing diners to savor the authentic flavors of Japan.

Recognized for its exceptional design, Masu was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2014. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. Masu's incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology showcases the strong technical and creative skills of J. Candice Interior Architects, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.

Step into Masu and embark on a culinary journey that celebrates the essence of Japan. Immerse yourself in the serene ambiance, indulge in the finest Japanese cuisine, and experience the true taste of Japan in the heart of Hong Kong.
