Revolutionizing Residential Design: The Riga Residence

Vadim Martynov and Ekaterina Gatilova's Modernist Masterpiece

The Riga Residence is a residential house project that stands out for its modernist principles and unique architectural features. The design team, led by Vadim Martynov and Ekaterina Gatilova, embarked on a mission to transform the existing structure into a modern masterpiece. The project involved the dismantling of the facade decoration, internal partitions, and partial load-bearing structures, followed by the installation of new structures and facade finishing. The result is a completely transformed building, adapted to the customer's specific requirements.

The design team drew inspiration from global trends in modernist architecture. The facade of the building is emphatically modern, with contrasting colors and materials used to highlight the complex and unusual shape of the building. The window openings, made from floor to ceiling, reveal the interiors of the house, providing optimal view characteristics and visually dissolving the building into the surrounding landscape.

The Riga Residence is designed for year-round residence, with a terrace and a decorative garden accessible from both the plot and the adjacent premises of the house. A SPA is located behind the garden, and the basement houses an underground parking and other auxiliary and technical rooms. The building's dimensions in axes are 38 315 x 18 835 mm, with the total area after reconstruction being 1404.7 sq. m.

The project started in 2020, with the design development completed in Spring 2021. The construction phase is currently underway in Latvia, in the northeast of Riga. The design team faced the challenge of preserving the structural part of the building with minimal dismantling works, which was solved through a thorough analysis of the structure and the development of specific nodes.

The Riga Residence has been recognized for its innovative design and was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2022. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and the Riga Residence certainly fits the bill with its modernist principles and unique architectural features.
