Wuhan Fun-Land Smart Science City: A Vision of Vitality, Intelligence, and Green

Aedas' Award-Winning Design Merges Tradition with Innovation

In the heart of Hanyang District, Wuhan City, an artificial island is set to become an iconic landmark, thanks to the innovative design concept of Aedas. The Wuhan Fun-Land Smart Science City, a blend of cultural, office, retail, and residential spaces, is a testament to the fusion of traditional aesthetics and modern technology.

The design of the Wuhan Fun-Land Smart Science City is inspired by the concept of "integration and connection". The dynamic form of the buildings draws from the momentum of traditional calligraphy, creating diverse architectural enclosures. The planning integrates the river into the design, continuing the historical spatial context of Wuhan, and combines vibrant culture program, sunken plaza, landscape water bank, green and ecological leisure, and inspirational interactive space for the compound open office and culture park.

What sets this design apart is its location on an artificial island and its commitment to green and clean energy. The plan includes the construction of three centralized energy stations, harnessing sewage sources and geothermal sources. The design also incorporates the advanced concept of a sponge city, responding to the carbon peak and carbon neutral goal, and realizing a new model of green and ecological.

The design team, led by Dr. Andy Wen and Nicole Liu, faced several challenges during the design process. The project had a tight height limitation with a large GFA requirement and required the combination of multiple programs in a core position for the district development. Despite these constraints, the team managed to create a high-class building complex and mixed-use urban space.

The Wuhan Fun-Land Smart Science City is not just a testament to innovative design and sustainable practices, but also a symbol of the city's vibrant culture and history. The project, which started in November 2020, is set to begin construction in 2022, promising to be a new iconic name card of Wuhan.

The design's excellence has not gone unnoticed. It was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2022, a prestigious accolade given to designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. This recognition is a testament to Aedas' commitment to creating designs that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable and functional.
