Urban Patio: A Tranquil Oasis in the Heart of the City

Creating a Utopia in the Concrete Jungle

Urban Patio stands out from other office spaces due to its ingenious use of limited space and its integration of nature. The design team inserted two square boxes into the narrow site, breaking the spatial pattern and extending the overall vision. This created a rare atrium that connects the building with the surrounding trees, allowing nature to become an integral part of the office environment. The roof, featuring circular skylights, not only brings in natural light but also provides stunning views of the changing seasons, transforming the space into a utopia in the heart of the city.

The realization of Urban Patio involved the use of innovative technologies and materials. The office screen, made of glass with a waterfall texture, creates a sense of light flowing through the space, reminiscent of silk. The floor and walls of the atrium are constructed using stable, waterproof, and recyclable plastic wood, complemented by textured carpets and wall decorations. These natural materials and textures enhance the overall aesthetic and character of the space.

With a total area of 400 square meters, Urban Patio includes not only office spaces but also meeting rooms, a patio, and a lounge. The design team carefully considered the functionality and practicality of the space, ensuring that it meets the needs of modern professionals while providing a serene and inspiring atmosphere.

One of the notable features of Urban Patio is its interaction with the environment. Located in a rainy city, the roof is designed with a sloping surface to facilitate self-cleaning through rainwater. The drainage gutter on the roof and the gutter next to the base effectively manage water flow, allowing the space to adapt to all seasons. This thoughtful design ensures that the space remains functional and visually appealing throughout the year.

Urban Patio was brought to life between December 2020 and March 2021 in Taoyuan City, Taiwan. The design process involved extensive research and careful consideration of the existing trees on the site. By preserving the trees and incorporating them into the design, the team created a unique and scenic space that offers respite from the busy city life.

This exceptional design has not gone unnoticed. Urban Patio was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade recognizes the project's outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and contribution to improving the quality of life in urban environments.
