Meandre: A Fragrance Packaging Design Inspired by Nature

An Immersive Journey into the Forest

Meandre, a unique fragrance packaging design by Jiawei Wu, takes inspiration from the curves of a river and aims to provide an immersive experience of wandering through a forest. With its natural elements and sustainable design concept, Meandre offers a truly captivating and eco-friendly fragrance experience.

The concept behind Meandre is to represent the experience of forest wandering through its design and packaging. The brand personality and design were inspired by the French word "méandre," which means "curves of a river." The fragrance itself is crafted with natural and woody notes that evoke the feeling of walking in a forest.

The packaging system of Meandre is designed to create an immersive journey for customers. The cap of the bottle reflects the image of a natural shape with its bending branch, while the stone-made bottle represents the beauty of nature. The footprints on the packaging further enhance the forest wandering experience. Additionally, an information card with a photo and description allows users to envision the exact moment the perfumer experienced in a little French rural forest.

One of the key strengths of Meandre is its ability to transport customers to a verdant forest, no matter where they are. The scent, combined with the whole packaging experience design, brings the essence of the forest directly to the user. It is a testament to the power of design to create a sensory and immersive experience.

The realization of Meandre involved the use of various design technologies. The graphics were created in Adobe Illustrator to maintain vector quality, ensuring scalability without loss of image quality. The final designs were delivered in RGB, CMYK, and Pantone colors to maintain consistency across different media. The bottle design was built using Rhino software and utilized a wood bending process with North American walnut.

Meandre's technical specifications include the use of vector graphics for scalability and the submission of final designs in both RGB and CMYK color variants. The bottle design incorporates a wood bending process with North American walnut, adding to its unique and sustainable appeal.

The design of Meandre presented several challenges, including finding a balance between natural elements and brand image. The complex structure of the bottle package design also posed challenges, particularly in terms of machining qualification. However, these challenges were overcome, resulting in a visually stunning and technically impressive design.

Meandre, with its elegant and immersive packaging design, offers a unique fragrance experience that transports users to a forest setting. Its sustainable design concept and use of natural elements make it a standout in the world of fragrance packaging. Meandre was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2022, recognizing its creativity, resourcefulness, and contribution to improving the quality of life.
