Greenwich: A Unique Residential Design by Sheng-Yuan Chen

Creating Space and Light with Mezzanine

In the limited floor area of Xiaopingshu, Taiwan, Sheng-Yuan Chen cleverly uses a mezzanine to increase the use of space. The division between lighting and space coexists, allowing for visual penetration that clearly divides the space and increases the usable area. This innovative approach not only provides convenience in daily life but also enhances emotional communication within the space.

The main materials used in the realization of Greenwich include particle board, mineral water-based paint, and stone plastic composite flooring. These materials not only contribute to the design's aesthetic appeal but also create a healthy living environment with low formaldehyde and low volatility.

The dimensions of Greenwich are 6350mm in width, 6060mm in depth, and 3930mm in height. This compact yet functional design showcases the designer's attention to detail and commitment to creating a harmonious living space.

Chen Sheng-Yuan, Huang Tzu-Ting, and Liu Chia-Fa are the talented designers who collaborated on this project, bringing their expertise and creativity to the realization of Greenwich.

One of the notable features of Greenwich is the reproduction of the lines of the iron staircase walkway on the mezzanine. This design element pays homage to the homeowner's deep memories and emotions associated with the iron staircase outside the Manhattan building. By incorporating this visual element, the design creates a sense of connection and nostalgia.

Greenwich was completed in January 2021 in Taiwan. The design project faced challenges in utilizing the limited space effectively. However, through the use of mezzanine and strategic placement of lighting, the design successfully overcame these challenges and created a functional and visually appealing living space.

Greenwich has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate innovation, practicality, and adherence to professional and industrial requirements. Greenwich's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contributes to a better world.
