The design team led by Shiu-Ming Chen has created a truly unique residence called "For Two." This project breaks away from traditional living room concepts and enclosed partitions, instead opting for a bold and innovative double-axis concentric circle layout. The space is bright and open, with a 360-degree view from anywhere at its core. The planning extends around the dressing room and the kitchen island, creating a circular route that allows for unobstructed movement between different areas.
Glass plays a crucial role in this design, facilitating lighting and bringing brightness to the space. The team takes advantage of the material's characteristics to draw light into the interior, creating a distinct romance between day and night. The floor-to-ceiling windows and glass partitions frame the lush greenery outside, resembling large picture frames. This "borrowed view" technique brings the beauty of nature into the room, creating a serene oasis in the midst of the concrete jungle.
The circular layout is further emphasized by the track lighting installed under the beams. This not only reduces the visual load but also eliminates any sense of oppression, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere. The design team has also paid attention to the details, ensuring intimacy and privacy with sliding doors in each space.
The design of the cabinets in "For Two" is unique, aiming to lighten the storage and maintain an open view. Some cabinets are made of iron and glass, creating a diverse visual layer. Transparent vertical partitions replace parts of the wall structure, allowing light to penetrate and embodying the concept of "penetration." The stainless-steel kitchen island stands out as a highlight, while the glass in the dressing room guides the light and shadow throughout the space.
The interaction with the design is intuitive and flexible. Instead of a traditional living room, the concentric circles allow people to look around the space from every angle. Clients can use the space as they wish, enjoying the exclusive view and the happiness it brings. The project was completed in Taiwan, showcasing the innovative spirit and creativity of the design team.
"For Two" has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in 2023. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements. Shiu-Ming Chen and the design team have successfully created a circular oasis in the concrete jungle, blending light, penetration, and greenery to shape a truly customized space.
