Desibot: The Intelligent Disinfection Robot

A Modern Solution for Sterile Environments

The idea for the design of the Desibot, an automated disinfection robot, was born out of the necessity to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus. With a clear need to disinfect public spaces without using chemicals, the Desdorp design team came up with an efficient and safe solution: a 3D printed robot equipped with integrated ultraviolet (UV) light.

Desibot is a modern autonomous indoor robot designed to prevent the spread of viruses and bacteria, including SARS-CoV-2. Its intelligent ultraviolet light disinfection function ensures a sterile environment in hospitals and clinics, all while eliminating the need for toxic chemicals and minimizing risks for workers and clients. By utilizing automated robotic solutions, Desibot increases the safety of personnel, as they no longer need to handle, transport, or store hazardous substances.

The main casing of the Desibot is manufactured using 3D printing technology, allowing for local production in small quantities based on demand. This flexibility also enables personalization according to the client's branding or the specific environment where the robot will be used. Whether it's FDM or SLS printing technology, Desibot can be tailored to meet the unique requirements of each setting.

With dimensions of 420 mm (width) x 420 mm (depth) x 1300 mm (height) for the disinfection robot and 250 mm (width) x 250 mm (depth) x 270 mm (height) for the charging dock, Desibot is designed to be compact and efficient in its operation.

The Desibot's functionality is based on ultraviolet radiation, which has been clinically tested and proven to destroy up to 99.99% of bacteria, viruses, molds, fungi, and other microorganisms, including SARS-CoV-2. The robot operates autonomously, effectively disinfecting various spaces without the need for human interaction. Equipped with LIDAR space scanning and mapping technology, Desibot navigates and moves autonomously, ensuring thorough disinfection.

Desibot's artificial intelligent cameras detect the presence of individuals in the disinfection space and immediately turn off the UV lights, enhancing the overall sense of security. The disinfection process typically takes around 10-15 minutes per operating room, with no need for prolonged exposure or ventilation. The use of UV-C radiation eliminates the need for chemicals, making Desibot an environmentally friendly solution.

The Desibot project began in the middle of 2020 in Vilnius, Lithuania, as a response to the urgent need for effective disinfection methods during the global pandemic. Extensive market research revealed the high retail prices of existing disinfection robots, prompting the Desdorp design team to create an innovative and accessible solution. By combining intelligent hardware solutions with on-demand 3D printing technology, Desibot was developed to be cost-effective and widely available.

The creative challenge in designing Desibot was to create aesthetically pleasing forms that could be manufactured in small quantities using 3D printing technology. Each part of the design had to meet rigorous requirements for rigidity, reliability, and precise usage. The integration of standard attachments into the main forms ensured both functionality and visual appeal.

Desibot is a groundbreaking solution for maintaining sterile environments in hospitals and clinics. With its intelligent ultraviolet light disinfection function and 3D printed casing, Desibot offers a safe, efficient, and customizable approach to preventing the spread of viruses and bacteria. By prioritizing accessibility and innovation, the Desdorp design team has created a design that truly makes a difference.
