Modern Causal: A Minimalist American Style Residence

Creating an Elegant and Casual Living Space

The clients, a 65-year-old couple who frequently travel between the United States and Taiwan, desired a home that reflected their American minimalist taste. The design team took this inspiration and created a space that exudes elegance and luxury without compromising on functionality. By removing the facade between the living room and the study room, the team enlarged the space and created an open-plan study area.

One of the unique features of this design is the use of wooden grilles with gray paint to decorate the beams, effectively dividing the living room and the study room while maintaining a sense of openness. The facade next to the dining room features a hidden door disguised as a grille, leading to a storage room. The gray and white color scheme adds a touch of sophistication to the space.

The design team incorporated system cabinets throughout the residence, offering both storage and aesthetic appeal. Various colors and textures of system boards were used to create a visually interesting and functional design. In the foyer, a black system cabinet with drawers and an acrylic system cabinet on the right side provide additional storage options.

Technologically, the design features wooden flooring in the interior, stone grain tiles in the public areas such as the entrance, TV wall, and kitchen, and customized system cabinets for storage. Low formaldehyde, anti-fading, anti-mold, and anti-bacterial latex paint was used throughout the space, ensuring easy maintenance.

This project was completed in August 2021 in Taiwan. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the design team successfully executed the project with limited in-person communication. The clients' preference for dark colors and a casual style was carefully considered, and warm lighting was added to the dark system cabinets to create a harmonious blend with the overall color tone.

The Modern Causal design by Nisso Design showcases the perfect balance between American minimalist style and casual living. With its unique features and attention to detail, this residence offers a sophisticated and functional living space for its owners.
