Light Step: A Resort Hotel-Inspired Residential Design

Creating a Delicate Textured Atmosphere with Shades of Gray and Light

The client's preference for dark colors and no sunlight led designer Kai Yang to create a residential space that resembles a resort hotel. Through the use of different shades of gray and strategic lighting design, the Light Step project presents a unique and upscale atmosphere.

The design team behind Light Step, led by Kai Yang, embraced the challenge of working with a client who favored dark colors and desired a space devoid of natural light. By utilizing various shades of gray, the team was able to create a visually striking environment reminiscent of a resort hotel. The different gray scales employed in the design contribute to a subtle textured atmosphere, while the strategic use of light and shadow enhances the interior lighting.

One of the standout features of Light Step is the utilization of different grayscale color blocks to present the facade. This technique, combined with the play of light and shadow, creates a vertical and horizontal axis that enhances the overall spatial effect. The design team carefully selected shades of gray to create a space that exudes a sense of sophistication and elegance. To add visual interest, cool colors such as white, blue, and green were incorporated into the details, creating a stair-like effect that further enhances the overall aesthetic.

The lighting design in Light Step is a key element in creating the desired atmosphere. Linear lighting is embedded around the ceiling and facade, resulting in a vignetting effect on the walls that adds depth and texture to the space. This careful placement of lighting fixtures contributes to the overall high-end ambiance of the design.

When it comes to the materials used in Light Step, the design team opted for a selection that would complement the client's preference for dark tones. Plaster, quartz sheet, laminate flooring, eco-friendly latex paint, gray mirror, enamel, and matte acrylic panels were among the materials chosen. The dark color palette of these materials adds to the desired aesthetic, while their textures create a delicate and refined ambiance. The addition of linear lighting further enhances the high-end atmosphere of the space.

The Light Step project is a new apartment with a total area of 40.7 square meters, located on the seventh floor. The layout of the space is long and narrow, and the client's dislike for sunlight led to the decision to seal the windows. Reflective materials, such as mirrors, were used to extend the visual perception and create a minimalist and stylish design.

In conclusion, Light Step, designed by Kai Yang, showcases a unique and upscale approach to residential design. By utilizing shades of gray, strategic lighting design, and carefully selected materials, the design team was able to create a space that resembles a resort hotel. The play of light and shadow, along with the use of different grayscale color blocks, adds depth and texture to the environment. Light Step is a testament to the power of thoughtful design and attention to detail.
